Serendipity has guided Sajata's life from the very beginning. "Sajata," which means, 'to adorn' in Hindi, has traveled the world to promote beauty. Sajata's interest in beauty started when at the age of six she said she’d watch closely as her mother would apply her makeup for work. Later, she would sit perched on her mother’s vanity, mixing & creating colors, trying to give herself a more glamorous look.
Sajata didn’t initially plan to become a professional makeup artist as a career. She pondered becoming an art teacher but found that her passion for makeup has afforded her many opportunities to revel in what she loves and travel internationally. During that time, she has worked with A-list celebrities like Diana Ross, Eartha Kitt, Ossie Davis, Sean Connery, and Dionne Warwick, to name a few.
After working at the prestigious Kenneth Salon— where Kenneth, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ hairstylist while she was in the White House – made his mark. Sajata, horning her skills as a freelance makeup artist, found an agent who booked her for print and magazine editorials. This opportunity allowed Sajata to build a portfolio, enhance her resume, and gain credibility.
As she has crafted an Emmy Award-winning career as a broadcast news network makeup artist, Sajata has enjoyed a diverse career as a personal makeup artist to the notable ABC News journalist Barbara Walters for eight years before furthering her talents by traveling across the Atlantic touring throughout Europe as the exclusive and prominent international makeup artist/spokesperson for the leading European beauty company “Juvena of Switzerland.”
Sajata worked at the legendary Apollo Theater with a young Queen Latifah, LL Cool J., and a constellation of stars who performed for “It’s Showtime at The Apollo.”
Her work has been showcased in numerous magazines, including Deutsche Vogue and Essence Magazine. With years of experience in cosmetology, Sajata has done makeup for Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Senator Hillary Clinton, and various actors/entertainers. She was the key makeup artist for Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary Special.
Sajata is very popular among New York’s elite and continues to freelance work with Paramount/CBS on shows such as CBS 60 Minutes, CBS 48 Hours, CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley, and others.
Sajata’s philosophy centers on using makeup to enhance natural beauty rather than overwhelm it, by adding definition to your best features and concealing unwanted flaws. People from all walks of life seek her beauty advice and grooming tips.
Sajata has even more exciting goals in store. To be continued …
